What's new
Bill Pay has added Pay by Card as an additional payment rail. When a customer schedules a payment, they will see a card option alongside their existing bank accounts. Visa and Mastercard (business cards) are accepted at launch. American Express and Discover are planned for a future release.
Customers will add, view, and manage saved cards from the "I want to" menu or directly from the payment screen. Card details are entered through a secure hosted form managed by our payments partner. Autobooks receives only a tokenized reference. No card numbers are stored by Autobooks or by the financial institution.
A convenience fee applies to each card payment and is disclosed to the customer before they confirm. The customer sees the exact fee and approves it before anything is charged.
Why it matters
For the customer, a card option gives them another way to pay when their checking account balance is tight, or when they want to earn rewards or manage short-term cash flow. They can do this inside digital banking instead of going directly to the biller's site, which means fewer missed or late payments and less drop-off to competing tools.
For the financial institution, a card option keeps more customer activity inside digital banking instead of pushing it to the biller's site. Every Bill Pay transaction is engagement the institution keeps, and more transaction data to inform deposit and lending strategy. When a customer pays with a card issued by the institution, the institution also earns interchange revenue. And there is no added risk. All card payments are processed through Autobooks and our payments partner. The institution does not handle or settle card transactions.
How does it work?
No action is required from the financial institution or the digital banking team. Autobooks handles all configuration, and Pay by Card is activated automatically.
When a customer schedules a payment, the Bill Pay screen will display Account and Card tabs side by side. Selecting Card will open a saved card list or a secure hosted form to add a new one. The customer will review the convenience fee and confirm the payment. The card payment then runs through Autobooks and our payments partner with no further intervention from the bank.
Availability
Pay by Card is available to all Autobooks financial institutions through Bill Pay, for both consumer and small business bill pay customers.
